The Crook Fire Protection District (CFPD) covers just over 261 sections or 380 square miles of the rural Northeastern corner of Logan County. We provide Fire and Emergency services to our district as well as covering 17 miles of Interstate 76. The town of Crook population is 200 with district population of approximately 2500. The town of Crook is 29 miles from the county seat where the main ambulance and hospital services are located. Some portions of our district are as far away as 50 miles. This serves for lengthy response times within our district.
The local industry is agriculture with an increased recreational attraction in the summer months as well as fall/winter. The summer brings boosted activity due to the tourist travel over I-76 as well as the location of the Colorado Divisions of Wildlife Jumbo Reservoir. The fall/winter brings extensive back road travel with numerous hunting seasons.
The district also protects a school with grades K-12 at an enrollment of more than 250 students per year plus faculty. Finally the district has mutual aid agreements with four (4) districts which increase our potential coverage.
The CFPD has been a long time leader in community improvement within their scope of service as well as individual volunteerism. CFPD supports Crook Fire-Rescue (CFR) a total volunteer organization that runs fire, medical, and rescue calls in the district. CFR averages about 20 volunteers with training from CPR to EMT-Basic. The volunteers also train Haz-Mat, Extrication, mutual aid water shuttle and fire-fighting techniques. All volunteers live within the District they serve.
